On a winter morning in Spike Deane's Canberra garden, #ThistleTheCat communes with #BigAine. Spike designed, molded in wax then fired Aine out of 20 kilos of cast glass. Aine spent 3 weeks in the kiln to cool down from her top temperature (molten glass) of 850° Celsius. Some mornings it's -5° in the garden at this time of year. So that's quite a spread.

"Aine" can mean radiance, brilliance, ardent. All on display today.

Thistle, our small reddish-brown haired cat with a black face, sits on a brick path in our front garden, opposite a shimmering glass sculpture of the Irish folklore goddess Aine. Large bushes and trees fill the background against a clear blue winter morning sky.
